1. What is avatar?

Avatar (userpic) is a picture of a small size; it is displayed in the profile of a registered website user. It may be a photograph, as well as some other picture that reflects the user's being and helps partners in conversation get the most correct first impression of the user. The word itself came to Internet from Hindu mythology. Avatar means visible and/or felt incarnation of god. To put it simply, avatar is a "virtual character", an alter ego of a net surfer, and his virtual self. Avatars helps people to more fully express themselves, their mood, their inner world and their being.


2. What is RateAVATAR.com?

RateAVATAR.com is a web-service allowing you to estimate other people's avatars and learn what most people think about your own avatar. All avatars of members are scored by users on ten-point scale. You can test three different avatars at the same time to determine which of them people like most and, vice versa, which avatar annoys them most. Besides, RateAVATAR.com is a place where you can find and meet kindred spirits from all over the world.


3. How are rating points calculated?

Rating points are calculated in the following way: the sum of all scores received by an avatar during voting is divided by the number of votes.


4. How do I put my avatar onto the site?

Please register, if you have not registered before. During the process of registration you will be offered to upload your avatar from your computer to our site. If you are registered, you should get authorized. Then you can use the avatar upload function in the settings of your profile (My Account - Profile Settings).


5. Are there any restrictions applicable to avatars uploaded?

You can upload avatars with a size of up to 100x100 pixels. We support the following formats: gif, jpg, png. The maximum file size of pictures uploaded is 50 KB.


6. How many avatars may I use at the same time?

Each member can only use up to 3 avatars at the same time. You can add, remove or update avatars in the settings of your profile (My Account - Profile Settings).


7. The system does not accept my avatar. What should I do?

Most likely, the avatar you are trying to upload does not comply with the technical requirements. You can only upload avatars no bigger than 100x100 pixels. We support the following formats: gif, jpg, png. The maximum file size of pictures uploaded is 50 KB. You should optimize your avatar according to the above mentioned parameters.


8. Each time I enter the site the system requires me to get authorized. How do I make the system remember me?

During authorization check the "Remember" box. Cookies should be enabled in your browser.


9. I lost my password. Can you help me?

Please, use the "Password Assistance".


10. How do I change the email address associated with my account?

Login and click on the "Email&Password" option in "My Account" section.


11. How do I change my profile information?

Login and click on "Profile Settings" in "My Account" section.


12. Can I remove my account?

Yes, you can remove your account in "My Account" section by choosing the "Delete Account" option. All information about your account will be irretrievably removed from the system.


13. Can I change my avatar?

Yes, you can delete avatars that had been uploaded earlier and upload new ones in the "Profile Settings" subsection of "My Account" section. Each member can only use up to 3 avatars at the same time.


14. Why am I not receiving the confirmation email?

If you did not receive the confirmation email, then it's possible it was blocked as spam, so configure your filtering software to whitelist all " RateAVATAR.com" addresses and check your "junk" folder.


15. Why does the link in the confirmation email not work? (Usually from AOL users)

If you experience problems with the provided link, just copy and paste it into the address field in your browser.


16. Can I somehow contact another member of the system?

You can send a personal message to any member of the system. In order to do this, please use the "Message" option in the profile of the user you wish to send a message to.


17. I think that some members are violating the rules of use of the service (they use pornographic avatars, place incorrect information about themselves, etc.). What can I do to help the system stay clean?

Please, let us know of all cases when rules of use of our service are broken. You can send a complaint about rule-breakers by using the "Abuse" function in their profiles.
